I miss many great things that have gone obsolete by now and a lot of them many, many years ago.

For example, I miss my mother’s wonderful chocolate cake with white frosting…She was a wonderful cook and could make a super meal with very little to start with.  For example, home made ice cream (we all helped in that)–she made the special beginning sweet heavy cream combination and we put in the ice cream freezer (that’s what we called it) and turned the crank on the round little freezer (they are done with electrical motors now–no exercise!!).

Another thing I miss and this is very, very important was the unbelievably inexpensive gasoline…. It ordinarily went for about 21 cents a gallon, but in a cost war between gas stations it could drop to as little as 18 cents per gallon.  So when I was only about 10 years old and my brother, Ron, was 5 years old and my sister Kaye was only four years old.  Dad and Mom bundled us into the old yellow Dodge we had and took off for places unknown.  Dad liked to start out not knowing where we were going and just started driving

For example, on our first trip he decided to go north and after a couple of hours of driving and consulting maps with exciting stops, he decided to go to Niagra Falls which is right next to Buffalo, New York (also an interesting city to drive around in and take in the sights).

At Niagra Falls we crossed into Canada (no checkpoint then–by the way, I am 72 now and on that trip I was 10, so that was 62 years ago (man, how time flies!!).  So we went on this long trip all the way to Montreal, Canada and actually spent over three days there seeing the French-style buildings and eating the French food (absolutely wonderful!!).

As I remember it, Dad only took 200 dollars with us on the,. what turned out to be a three week vacation, and he told me that he had $45.12 left at the end.

Another thing that I miss a whole lot, is the feeling when we got sight of our house in the hamlet of Littles Corners in north western Pennsylvania.  We pulled into the driveway and jumped out of the car, and ran into the house.  It was so great to back in our house.  We loved it.

I could go on and on and on and on and on about the things that are now obsolete.

But that’s enough I believe…

How about you all, what do you think????

THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS

This is kind of a strange story.

I was traveling from the Grand Canyon to Phoenix, Arizona and doing about 130 miles per hour.  My date on a long trip from Florida to California to Utah then Las Vegas and finally on my way to Phoenix.

Anyway, all of a sudden I heard a police siren behind me and coming on to me very fast.  Of course, I pulled off the road and awaited my fate,,,not expecting any thing good since I was going 130 miles per hour and the posted speed limit was 65 miles per hour.

The officer pulled up and walked to my car and said, “Good Morning, you sure were doing quite a fast rate weren’t you?  Do you know how fast you were going?”

“Yes,” I said. “I was going about 130 miles per hour, I believe.”

“Yes,” he said, “That is about right.

I was literally quivering in my heart of hearts, knowing that I was going to get a huge fine….But that was not to be…

Then it started…

“Do you know what I am going to do about your speeding?” he said.

“No,” I said.  Literally quivering throughout my body.

“Well, he said.  “This may surprise you, but I am going to do nothing for your speeding.  Do you know why, you lucky guy you?”

“No I don’t” I said. Wondering what was going on.

“The true reason that I stopped you is that we get a lot of Elk killed this way by speeding motorists.  So I stopped you so that you would not be one of those unlucky drivers that kill an Elk.”

“Wow,” I said.  “I thought I was going to get a hell of a ticket!”

“Well, what is your name?” he said.

“It is Harry Richard Phelan,” I said.

“Well go on your way, Harry Richard Phelan.  And have a nice day.”

“And that was THE DAY I WAS  SHOWN KINDNESS, ….and I am glad of it, Folks.

THE END

Hello…my name is H. Richard Phelan and I am a budding newbie author.  It has taken me over ten years but I am close to the finish line which is the publication of my Techno-Thriller novel called KNOCKDOWN.  I have the Love of My Live, Janet Nicholson, my wonderful daughter, Kelly Moutsatsos, and my new, close friend in writing and publication technology–Cheryl Morris…All of these are reviewing, proof reading, and copy editing the current manuscript of KNOCKDOWN.

They and I and all of us should finish our work in about 2 to 3 weeks.  Then the manuscript will go to CreatSpace-the best publisher around for Self Publishers (they belong to Amazon).

What an exciting time that will be when KNOCKDOWN finally gets published!!!!

It will appear both as an ebook and also as a hard copy about the same time.

I really hope that all of you readers of this buy a KNOCKDOWN book and are wonderfully happy with the content and amazing technologies in KNOCKDOWN.

KNOCKDOWN has in it love, life, death, sex,a good guy Tommy Shannon, a great. beaitiful woman named Evie, and a bad guy named Mack.  They all struggle throughout the story of KNOCKDOWN and their struggle cominates with a surprising, unbelievable ending that sets the stage for the coming KNOCKDOWN Trilogy.

I truly hope that you get and buy a copy of KNOCKDOWN and are wonderfully entertained by it….

I think that you will believe that your investment in KNOCKDOWN will be money well spent!!

H. Richard Phelan’s Writing

I guess I am supposed to write something about Land of Confusion…Not sure what that means, but here goes!!!

You know confusion reigns across the Universe of Human Relations….

“I thought you said something bad to me,”  I said to my Jan…

“Well no, what you said to me was no problem, Honey…Please sing to me, I love to hear you sing!”

“What would you like for me to sing, Honey?”

“Sing to me Richie, your favorite–Music of the Night from the Phantom of the Opera.  You sing it perfectly and I love it….the Love Song that it is!!”

“Ok, Here goes…xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx,”

“How was that, Honey?”

“That was just absolutely stunning–so beautiful!”

SO THAT IS THE END OF MY STORY ABOUT CONFUSION IN HUMAN RELATIONS…I HOPE THAT YOU ALL ENJOYED IT
